How to Edit Macros on a Meal
Editing macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat, and fibre) helps keep your meal log accurate.
Follow the steps below on iOS or Android.
Step-by-step
- Open the meal from your Meal Timeline to view the photo, items, and nutrition summary.
- Select the item to edit and tap the pencil icon on the item’s macronutrient bar.
- Confirm Serving Information. Adjust the amount or unit if needed, then tap “Yes, I want to edit nutrients.”
Edit the nutrients. Enter values for Calories, Fat (g), Carbohydrates (g),
Fibre (g), Sugar alcohols (if any), and Protein (g). Tap Save.
Tip: Small differences are normal because food labels round numbers. Aim to be close rather than perfect.
Why the numbers must “add up”
All calories come from four energy sources. Each gram provides a fixed amount of energy:
| Nutrient | Calories per gram |
|---|
| Protein | 4 kcal |
| Carbohydrates | 4 kcal |
| Fat | 9 kcal |
| Alcohol | 7 kcal |
Think of the total calories as a complete puzzle. Protein, carbs, fat, and alcohol are the pieces.
When you enter grams for each piece, they should fit together to make the whole picture (calories).
Example: 10 g protein, 5 g fat, 20 g carbs →
(10×4) + (5×9) + (20×4) = 165 calories.
Your edited Calories should be close to this total.
Quick check before you Save
- Serving amount and unit are correct.
- Protein, carbs, fat (and alcohol if present) roughly sum to the shown Calories.
- Fibre and sugar alcohols are included under carbohydrates as applicable.
Troubleshooting
- Numbers won’t match exactly? Labels round values; a small mismatch is okay.
- Calories look too high/low? Re-check serving size or units (g vs. tbsp).
- Accidentally changed everything? Use Reset Nutrients and re-enter values.
